Canada

Ian Grais was born and raised in Western Canada. He studied Economics at the University of British Columbia then Advertising at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, before joining Palmer Jarvis Vancouver in 1994 as an art director.
During his six years at PJ Ian did work for clients like Playland and Greyhound Air and won a slew of advertising awards, including Cannes Lions, One Show Pencils and Clios. He was ranked the number one art director in the country for four years in a row, from 1997 to 2001.
In 1999, Ian left Palmer Jarvis DDB to launch Rethink with his partners Tom Shepansky and Chris Staples. At last count, the agency had 38 employees and clients including Bell Mobility, A&W Restaurants, Dominion Food Stores, British Columbia Automobile Association, Maclean's Magazine and the BC Lions football team. Ian's work at Rethink has continued to garner awards both nationally and internationally. Rethink was also recently named Marketing Magazine's 2003 Agency of the Year.
Rethink has also afforded Ian an opportunity to explore his interests in product development and design. In 2000, he helped launch Rethink Beer-the world's first herbal charged lager, with a unique plastic case that can be re-used as a CD holder. Ian also designed the Rethink Light, made from recycled traffic pylons, which recently won an honorable mention for best new product at the New York Gift Show.
Ian is also a regular guest speaker at Vancouver design schools counseling design and advertising students.
